Fans can expect the latest offering from English indie-rock band The Magic Numbers to hit stores in February 2010.

Band members Romeo and Michelle Stodart joined veteran Afrobeat drummer Tony Allen on stage last night at the second Oxjam charity gig, at a converted Oxfam shop in South London.

The all-star jam session also featured London hip-hop star Roots Manuva and Roses Gabor.

Speaking to 6 Music about the making of their third record, vocalist and guitarist Romeo said they took some time out to set up their own studio.

"It's probably the most confident of the records we've made. I think we've moved on a lot."

"We just needed to take a break from touring because we did it for a good three and a half years on the stretch - and we loved it - but we needed to get out of the thing to try and reassemble some normal life," he explained.

After their critically lauded self-titled debut, which was Mercury-nominated in 2005, the band’s second album, 2006’s Those The Brokes, was less of a commercial success but Romeo feels they have progressed on their latest outing.

"It’s probably the most confident of the records we’ve made. I think we’ve moved on a lot," he explained. "It’s less like a ‘band in a room’ record, which is what the first two were. It was like, ‘Let’s play these songs as best we can and then let’s capture it’.

"Whereas this time it was more about making a record and thinking of the different instruments we could use to tell a story within the whole thing."

Tonight's Oxjam line-up features Fat Boy Slim and DJ sets from Basement Jaxx and Stereo MCs.
