Roles and responsibilities
- Digital Distribution provides the technology that interfaces the 大象传媒鈥檚 online services to the internet. This includes the encoding, transcoding, packaging, distribution and playback for all a/v media (including for products such as iPlayer and Sounds), and the other internet edge technology required by internet products of the scale of 大象传媒 Online.
- It also provides other services used widely across the 大象传媒, including cloud, on premise virtualised platforms, connectivity and monitoring.
Biography
Richard was Head of Technology for the fledgling Interactive TV department from formation through to the launch of the 大象传媒鈥檚 Bafta-winning interactive 鈥渞ed button鈥� Wimbledon service. His responsibilities expanded to include Broadcast Online technology in 2001, and he has been working in leadership roles in areas related to online technology ever since.
He formed the Digital Distribution and Operations department that provided the platform and operations for the 大象传媒鈥檚 coverage of the London 2012 Olympics. He led the Online Technology Group that provided the foundation technology for 大象传媒 Online, and ultimately formed the current Digital Distribution department in 2021.

Expenses are costs incurred by 大象传媒 staff on behalf of the 大象传媒 and claimed through the 大象传媒's expenses system.
Central bookings are costs incurred on behalf of the 大象传媒 and booked through the 大象传媒's central bookings system. Both expenses and central bookings are published every three months.
