Making News

How much understanding of AI do journalists nowadays need? Does machine learning allow them to dig deeper or be more creative? What influence does having all that real time data on your audience have on editorial decisions – and is that valid?

Watch 'AI 2022: Making News'

AI-driven technology is increasingly present in newsrooms. Real time data shows what audiences are reading, and algorithms know which news stories are likely to be of interest based on what else you’ve read. Production processes are being automated and studio backdrops are virtual. And, of course, major technological advances in AI in, say, medicine, transport, agriculture, defence, the criminal justice system, are newsworthy in their own right.
