The Eastgate was built into Exeter's City Wall, and stood at the top of the High Street. Unfortunately it was demolished in 1784 to make way for traffic! The picture displayed is of a replica model of the Gate. The Eastgate is a prime example of an object that should have been saved for future generations as a beautiful piece of Medieval architecture. Part of the original foundations of the Eastgate can be seen underground. The Eastgate model belongs to Exeter City Council, who own and operate the Underground Passages, and all the artefacts within.
