This decorative Inner Mummy Coffin is more than 2,800 years old and is one of two in the care of Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery. The coffin originally held the body of Iyhat - a middle-ranking priest from Thebes, the capital of Ancient Egypt and the site of modern day Luxor. Iyhat's coffin and our other inner mummy coffin of the Lady Tairy have been in Plymouth since 1919 - but only went on public display in 2008. It's been the highlight in our 'Ancient Egypt' gallery ever since.
