This came from the Royal palace in Brussels. Brussels was liberated during my father's time in Belgium in 1943/44. Whilst he was in the army he went into the palace and this carving was part of the architrave which was not smashed. This is Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor also the Duke of Burgundy who reigned from 1500 - 1550.
