Part of the security measures taken during WW2 when such factories were subject to much German bombing,& Saunders Roe had been bombed in May 1942these passes were issued to residents of East Cowes Isle of Wight during WW2 in order to allow them to walk through the area where the Aircraft Factory was and also the sports grounds which were used by the wider community. My mother (who worked at a different E Cowes shipbuilder & aircraft builder JS Whites) was not only a reseident of E Cowes, but married to a draftsman working at Sauders Roe and was needed to take in provisions on occassion, especially when he was on Home Guard duty after work.
