A wooden paddle, one of a pair, dating from the 19th century. Maori canoe paddles were often elaborately carved. The paddles are displayed in the Boyd Dawkins Study at Buxton Museum and Art Gallery. Sir William Boyd Dawkins was a Victorian archaeologist, geologist, collector and a curator at The Manchester Museum. The collections belonging to Boyd Dawkins and his friend and student Dr J. Wilfred Jackson make up the heart of Buxton Museum & Art Gallery's collections.
