Jan Tregagle was the legendary Cornish giant born at Trevorder near Wadebridge. Thought to be almost 7 ft tall. He became steward for the Robartes family of Lanhydrock. He was a real person around whom legendary stories have been created. He was something of a Robin Hood character who did good and bad deeds. Legend says for his bad deeds he was sentenced by the Devil to empty Dozmary Pool with a limpet shell with a hole in it.
Also to clear the Loe Bar between Helston and Porthleven by weaving the sand into a chain. He is buried in the churchyard at St Breock.
