Andrea Amati (1505-1577) crystalised the design and manufacture of the violin at Cremona in Italy for ever after. All the makers after him, including Antonio Stardivari, have simply evolved the instrument. Andrea Amati was responsible for the real birth of the violin. Against the background of wars and territorial disputes in the region, he created an object of beauty, skill and passion to be used to elevate human experience and appreciation of musical sound. The western world's musical instrumental heritage evolved from pefection of his design of this object at this point in time.
