This Scammell Highwayman was a powerful large capacity electric generator for powering fairground amusements such as the rides stalls and sideshows. It was named Illustrious like all similar fairground generators to personalise the machine. It was purchaed by Leonard Stamp in 1965 then by JJ Rogers from 1968 - 2002. The current owner Phil Vanstone then purchased it and restored it to its present magnificent state. It would have travelled all over the country with the fairground to provide electricity independent of any outside source. These machines have always been very popular with motor vehicle enthusiasts.
