Comprising 2,500 valves and rebuilt from a series of black and white photos and some circuit diagrams.The original wartime Colossus was designed and built by the Post Office engineer, Tommy Flowers, it was used at Bletchley Park and reduced the time it took to break the Lorenz cipher from weeks to hours. It made a vital contribution to the success of D-Day. Ten of these were built and operated by WRENS at Bletchley Park. The image, above, is of the fully operational rebuilt Colossus on publis display daily at The National Museum of Computing at Bletchley Park.
