This pen nib is commemorative of the ship Terra Nova in which Scott undertook his failed mission to the South Pole. Steel pen nibs such as this were produced for major organisations, clubs and societies and to commemorate important events. Seventy-five percent of the world's supplies of nibs were British, firstly made in Birmingham which was the British centre of the metalworking and jewellery trade, then later in London where this nib was produced. It dates from c1912 and is engraved Terranova.
