Prehistoric flint hand axe

Prehistoric flint hand axe

This piece reminds me of how advanced we have become since the early days of mankind when flint provided a means to survive. I have often found flint tools/scrapers in the fields surrounding my home in Kent while walking my dogs, so many that I would like to think that there was a community here of early man. At least they didn't have the M20 raging through their land - what other noises would they hear at night?

I stumbled on this particular object while walking my dogs across a wheat field and instantly recognised that this was special from how well it had been worked and the symmetry and size of the object. As you start to examine an object like this you begin to realise how it was held, and how it could be used to pound or cut. I find it remarkable that a wonderfully crafted object like this was made by someone who was walking the same landscape as me at a time I can barely imagine. Would they thank me for finding it?
