Captain George Haye who commanded HMS Pelter was on the 'Americas Station' 1813-1815 and visited our colonies in the Carribean where he picked up some walnuuts. On returning to Cornwall he planted nuts in his estate in Callington. The tree blew down in 1985. This piece of wood from the tree was given by Dennis Keam to Roger Gluyas of Probus who completed this intricate woodcarving in 2009. He hopes to enter it in the British Woodcarving Championships.
