Episode 56
Sìleas is lost. She was beside herself with joy to find the Isle of Arran was the secret destination of the thrilling Mystery Tour. Arran, situated in the Firth of Clyde, had long been on her "must visit" list.
Blessed with beautiful weather, Sìleas lost no time in discovering the delights of the island often described as "Scotland in miniature". However, her enthusiasm has landed her in a bit of bother as, impatient to see the sites, she has set off without a map and is now rather lost.
"'S e 'rathad cam chun a' chaisteil' a th' agam an seo!" ("I'm taking 'a roundabout way to the castle' here!" ) Sìleas mutters.
A fellow walker overhears her.
"Chun a' chaisteil?" ("To the castle?") she exclaims. "Tha e pìos mòr à seo." ("It's a long way from here." – Literally. A big piece from here).
Sìleas laughs and explains that she is not actually trying to reach the castle, but using the proverb to express the fact that she appears to be taking the long way round to reach her accommodation. Sìleas and the walker laugh and continue to chat until they part at the foot of the hill, with Sìleas now in possession of directions to her destination.
She feels a little down. Refreshing as it is to be on her own after herself and Marsaili living in each other's pockets for so long, she realises just how much she likes some company. She wouldn't be adverse to staying here for a while, so…
