1984: Bomb blast at Brighton Conservative conference

A bomb attack is made on the Conservative party conference in Brighton on 12 October 1984.
The blast tore apart the Brighton Grand Hotel, where Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and members of the Cabinet had been staying for the conference. Five people died in the explosion and 34 were injured.
The IRA claimed responsibility for the bomb, which had been planted several weeks earlier.
