Born听Steven Kapur on May 11th 1967 in Handsworth, Birmingham, Apache grew up in an听area of the city which was being celebrated as a 'UK reggae melting-pot'. During the 1980's Apache became involved with reggae sound systems and became听a local dancehall MC. His first single 'Move Over India' was released in 1990, but it was in听1993 and the release of the album No Reservations, featuring 'Boomshakalak'听that he really hit the big time. 'Boomshackalak' has featured in over 70 TV commercials worldwide including a Lynx commercial featuring Jennifer Aniston. It has also been included in听five Hollywood Films, including Dumb & Dumber starring Jim Carey听and the more recent Scooby Doo 2!
The听success of No Reservations was recognised by the industy and the following year he recieved听four Brit Awards nominations as well as an Ivor Norvello nomination. Apache has been a solid chart performer ever since and has had听seven British top 40 hits and has sold 11 million albums worldwide.听
Apache has kept himself underground for the past few years, touring across the world with his live band and releasing albums for specialist markets. Artists he has collaborated with include听Malkit Singh, Wrekx 'N' Effect, Yami Bolo, Tim Dog and Maxi Priest and听he has featured on Khiza's听Girls Avenue, Dalvinder Singh's听The Survivor and Malkit Singh's听Midas Touch 2.
Apache听made his comeback last summer after touring with Sean Paul in the USA听and headlining听the UK Asian Awards听in 2003, where he was听awarded Best Asian International Act 2003. He has just been awarded the prestigious UK Asian Jewel Award 2004 in the Media and Arts category. His new album Karma is due for release at the end of the year听and will be supported by the 鈥楽hady Tour 2004' where Apache will be backed by The Reggae Revolution Band from Birmingham.
