Summer Melas 2004

Summer Melas 2004听听>> 听The Artists听 >> Jassi Sidhu

Jassi Sidhu
Jassi SidhuSince Jassi's infamous split from B21, hits such as 'Jawani' and 'Jaan', have ensured his standing as听one of the premier vocalists in the industry today.

Best known for: 'Rangha'
Current album:听Reality Check
Up and coming: Currently working on a greatest hits project

At the tender age of 17 Jassi听formed the group B21. Named after their postal address in Handsworth, Birmingham, Jassi and brothers, Bally and Bhota Jagpal听released听their听debut album Sounds of B21 in 1996. Their follow up album By Public Demand was a huge success with听tracks 'Chandigar' and 'Puth Sardara Da' cementing the band's place in bhangra folklore. The boys performed 'Darshan' from the album Made in England听in Gurinder Chadha's hit movie Bend It Like Beckham.

Jassi听then split acrimoniously, from B21, declaring, "We will never, ever reconcile. We don't even talk anymore, it's听all history. I'm not going say what happened, but B21 now听are like 30 year olds miming on stage like five year olds. We were about听having fun, not that!" 听

He relaunched himself as a solo artist and in 2003听released his self-produced听album Reality Check. The 10 track album featured brand new tracks and collaborations with Rishi Rich and Metz 'n' Trix. "There's a lot of hip-hop mixes and I love messing with pop music, but there ain't nothing听controversial about it. It's 100 percent bhangra!"
