This radio game show was first broadcast on 11 April 1972, having evolved from a previous radio programme, I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again.

Chairman Humphrey Lyttleton, aided by his assistant Samantha and occasionally Sven, sets the teams tasks to complete such as singing the words of one song to the tune of another, acting radio charades, playing Mornington Crescent (an arcane game whose rules are much debated), or Cheddar Gorge, in which the teams compete not to complete a sentence. Colin Sell accompanies the musical rounds from the piano.

There are three regular team members: Graeme Garden, Tim Brooke-Taylor and Barry Cryer. Until December 1996, the fourth chair was occupied by the late and lamented Willie Rushton). His replacements have included Paul Merton, Stephen Fry, Sandi Toksvig, Tony Hawks and Jeremy Hardy.

The signature tune is The Schikel Shamble by Ron Goodwin, from the film Monte Carlo or Bust, so it's rather fitting that Humphrey Lyttleton keeps order by honking a car horn.
