DisGuys

The classic heavy stuff isn't dead - it's very much alive if ageing rockers DisGuys have anything to do with it. Find out more about the band below and read reviews. An audio clip will be coming soon.

Next gig: The Rising Sun (pub), Reading 4 October 2005 to launch CD single This Party鈥檚 Just Begun.

"Yesterday I saw a group of ageing rockers playing 80鈥檚 rock/metal and was one of the greatest gigs I鈥檝e ever been to. "
Mike Hefferan, Unsigned Showcase

DisGuys describe themselves as 'heavy rock 'n' roll with a thumping beat and big harmony vocals'.听 So there.

The original line-up (Bob Guy, Dave Shingleton, Steve Steele, Nige Farrow and Tim Martin) got together around 1990 (no one really seems to remember exactly when) and managed to stay together long enough to appear live twice.听 The debut gig was a Motorcycle Action Group rally in a farmer鈥檚 field in Bradfield, followed by an unrehearsed 鈥榮how鈥 at the Granby Tavern (long before it changed, er, ownership).

Several years and several hundred members later, DisGuys morphed from a totally unstable five-piece to a relatively unstable four-piece.听 After helping Bob hold the band (band??!!) together for so long, Russ Hogg decided to call it a day as rhythm guitarist for health/mental reasons.听 New guitarist Dr. Al Vaughan at the time stated that 鈥渙ne guitarist was enough 鈥 as long as they were good鈥.听 We鈥檙e still waiting Al鈥

The new line-up (Bob, Dr. Al, Julian Turner-Bell, Steve Steele 鈥 returning after eight years growing up) was stable from late 1990鈥檚 until 2003 when Steve emigrated to New York.听 Loser.听 A real blow as this had been a relatively successful period.

"DisGuys, a Reading-based band, have held true to the power chords and great emotive lead guitar solos that were rampant in the 80s, and seem to have successfully dragged these elements with them, kicking and screaming into the 21st century."听 James C, Reading Evening Post

Julian Bell
Julian Bell

"Yesterday I saw a group of ageing rockers playing 80鈥檚 rock/metal and was one of the greatest gigs I鈥檝e ever been to.听 DisGuys play rock music as it used to be.听 A time when rock was a larger than life, passionate, headlong rush into hedonism.听 It鈥檚 the sound of having a good time all of the time." Mike Hefferan, Unsigned Showcase

It was during this period that each member, for various reasons, agreed that if one of this line-up left the band then DisGuys would end.听 So the last gig with Steve in February 2003 was meant to be just that 鈥 the last one.

Mike Barber

Bob and Al spent the next two years recording a back-catalogue of DisGuys songs in Al鈥檚 home studio.听 They were pleasantly surprised by the results.听 So pleasantly surprised that they decided to get back together with Julian and record them properly with a newly hired bassist, Mike Barber.听 (Barber by name, certainly not by nature).听 They were all pleasantly surprised with the results.听 So pleasantly surprised that they decided to go out and play them live again and record a single.听

The rest, as they say, is history, well except Julian being out of action for months due to major surgery and original drummer Nige standing (or is that sitting?) in for a few gigs.听 What a dude.

One thing is for sure, if you catch DisGuys live you WILL be entertained.

Dave Shingleton
Hey Dave Dainton, me & Nigel play in a band called Holy Cowbell these days. There's a link to us on this very site. Hope to see you at a gig soon. Cheers

Dave Dainton
i remember watching these guys at the Granby back in the early when some of them played under the name Loose Tourniquet... Bobski was a great frontman, Dave Shingleton the posey axe man that all the girls swooned over... git! steve steele... what a name for a rocker! and also a little fat drummer whose name eludes me. i used to work with Nige Farrow years ago and he was a fantastically technical drummer.. I have to admit i was in awe of these guys and at the time i was convinced that at some point they would make it big. i've lost touch with Nigel and have heard nothing of the others for years now. some great memories from these guys.. Dave Shingletons parties were legendary!! i'd love to hear more about them..

Karen
The stand in drummer Nige Farrow was fantastic at the last gig.Its a shame he is Not Doing it no more.

Pat Dobson
Make sure Mike doesn't spend the whole gig with his hair over his eyes (again) !

Russ Hogg
Miss tomorrows gig at your peril - as ex rhythm guitarist i can confidently say that once Disguys gets under your skin, theyll stay with you like a dose of crabs I would like to take this opportunity to say that rumours of my poor mental health are greatly exaggerated, and ill certainly be down the rising to rock with the guys...that is, if the king of the potato people lets me...
