Tim Dellor

Join Tim Dellor every Friday night for the Sportsweek plus full, live commentary from every Reading game home and away in League or Cup. Tim bleeds Blue and White!

Tim Dellor

Tim Dellor is our Sports Editor and sometimes runs the eleven or so miles to work from Nettlebed to Caversham, but we try not to hold that against him.

He's also a dab hand at cricket and, of course, an expert on Reading FC - you'll hear his voice on air every time Reading play, plus at a variety of sporting events across Berkshire.

What makes you laugh?

"People who take themselves too seriously, Only Fools and Horses, and my friends in the pub. Important to note what doesn't make me laugh is Little Britain. Offensive rubbish."

What’s your most embarrassing moment on air?

"There's a very long list of dubious moments. Thanking Dave Kitson for not "passing wind" at the end of one interview. Saying I'd like to lick a football referee. My first glamorous gig was auctioning a sack of horse manure on Reading's Broad Street, live on the Breakfast programme. Never again."

Where is your favourite place in Berkshire?

"Elstree School, Bradfield College, The Bull in Stamford Dingley, The Berkshire Downs, The Madejski Stadium, Falkland Cricket Club, the home where I was brought up in Woolhampton."

What are your most memorable jobs before working for ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Berkshire?

"Teaching as a gap year student was invaluable. I learnt more in that year than in the preceding thirteen on the other side of the desk. I still do a lot of cricket coaching with ECB, ICC and Berkshire County Cricket Club.

Tim Dellor

Tim helps a young commentator at the Newbury Show

"My first job was as a fruit picker near Pangbourne. You were paid by the punnet, and if you were late you were allocated a morning on gooseberries."

What’s your favourite piece of music?

"Anyone who claims they have one favourite piece of music is lying. Depends where I am, what I am doing and what mood I am in. Anything by Abba is a winner though."

tim you mentioned about an article in the whitley whiff that tickled your fancy was it by any chance the one about the reading supporters samaritans by any chance?

Richard Grayson
Did I really hear you complaining last Wednesday night about having to drive two hundred miles to Sheffield to watch such an awful Royals display? Isn't that what we pay you for matey? You should consider it an honour not a chore and if you don't want to do it any more step down and let another more enthusiastic presenter take over. In the meantime, I'm taking your advice and "clearing off to listen another radio station " for my match coverage.

u are funny i ant to be like you wen i am older

Well done for asking some searching questions at last, during commentary you often make statements which you fail to deliver on when interviewing the manager.I thought B R was the man for the job at start of season but lost faith as it went on.There are now no key players that I can relate/warm to like Kitson,Doyle etc just a bunch of average.

Keith
I was pleased that the MP for Reading, Martyn Salter, text you following your interview with Brendan yesterday, in an attempt to put you in your place. I agree with him. Your questions/comments in the interview were pathetic. How on earth you could think that the performance against Scunthorpe was worse than the Palace game is impossible to comprehend. As Brendan suggested perhaps the football you see thro' your glasses is quite different from any of us who understand football. It was great to hear you reeling from Brendans other suggestion that his preparation for next weeks game at Bristol City, was to keep you well away from Hogwood Park. For you to subsequently claim that you thought Saturdays performance was worse because Scunthorpe were a much poorer side than Palace was another pathetice excuse for your ineptitude. Come on Tim, get real and grow up.

Russ
Reading will have done a very good job if they finish in 8th - 12th position this year. Am I one of the few to have accepted that ? - You wouldnt think so listening to comments on ´óÏó´«Ã½ radio such as '' 2 wins and we'll be on the verge of the play-offs'' or - ''we're only 9 points off the playoffs''. ( verbatim Tues 08th Dec)As soon as we win Tim seems to think everything is sorted and we're at a turning point - only to revert to the 'rubbish' jibe when we lose. We're an inconsistent average side - this is how it is - accept it - move on ! Thet's push hard for mid table - once we're there we can - perhaps - muse over possible play off places.Ignore any rhetoric spouted by some of the players too - When it comes to the crunch...How many are really that bothered ? - ..would you be if you were guaranteed £3000 - £7000 per week for 3 years..irrospective of results ? - Our Chairman has clearly lost all enthusiasm for the club - This negativity is feeding down to the staff and players.

Hi Tim, as a regular attendee to Reading home games, I am very disappointed that having purchased my ticket for Blackpool back in October for £22.50, Reading were offering tickets on Monday for £15.I do not understand why they can't offer all supporters a discount,we really do need an incentive to go along at the moment.

Russ Stein
TimI was in Egypt watching the Leicester televised game via some obscure Arabic Channel. For the first time this season though I could actually see the players numbers on their backs ( presumably at the request of Sky )...is there any reason why this slight amendment to their shirts cant be kept ?Loads of people around where I sit ( East Stand about 2/3rds way up) say they cant see the numbers and dont know who's playing ! - especially with all the new 'faces' - please can you put this comment forward to the powers that be at the club - many thanks = Russ

Karen Holt
It is no good Tim deriding Readings performance unless he is prepared to ask the hard questions at the interview with Brendon Rogers at the end of the game which he dodges every week.

Richard Grayson
Thank god for Mick Gooding on Radio Berkshire's coverage of RFC games. The perfect counterbalance to Tim Dellor's depressing negativity. Keep up the good work Mick!

thomas churchward
i am so gutted that reading lost today so we need brenden rogers and john madejski out and tommmy smith in up front

Tom
Tim how can you blame Tommy Smith. He should have been signed pre-season.

Gerry Barber
I am fed up with the comments from everyone about why is the club not spending money and that Sir Mad should go. Listening to Tim & Co after the game about where has the money gone? Well here it is from the 2008 report and accounts from Companies House:Turnover £51.5m (of which £33.7 from media and £11.1 from match day oh and Rugby £0.6m)Salary costs £31m ((including players whilst Sir Mad and Ian Wood-Smith took no salary)But here is the key point;Loses to be carried forward £17m (down from 23.8m as club made profit of £6.8m)Total creditors £59m (due within one yr £30.5m and after one year £28.5m)So with player sales of £12m and the reduction in wages that will reduce debt and salaries the reality is that a big fall in media income, still owe a lot of money.I work in finance and on the basis of the above without a Sir Mad behind the club and guarantees I would insist on form him I would not give this club more money. The reality is that without support Sir Mad we will have no club. Cub has to spend according to what it can afford. Why does everyone always expect Sir Mad to put his hand in his pocket and pay for everything? If the supports want more then pay more for the tickets – but let’s see we 16,000 on Saturday and season tickets have decline back to 11,000!

Dan Shuttleworth.
I thought Rodgers was interested in Jack Cork from Chelsea he has just signed a longer contract with them and now gone on loan to Coventry that says it all about Reading staying up.

Dan Shuttleworth
Tim Another week has gone by No promised signings no goals. The only way we seem to be going is down!.Come Mr Mad get your hand in your pocket before its to late.

Joan
Hi Tim, Congratulations to you and Amanda on the birth of your son. You have a very understanding wife, how could you go back to work so soon.

Corin
Hiya Tim, can you get Graeme into the studio to give us an update on his pre season training and whether he has received any offers?Corin

Matt
You should comment more on the Tour de France. Its not the same person who txts you, but he has the right idea.+like the Reading match commentries

Dan Shuttleworth
Hi Tim. As a Royals supporter since 62 I cannot say I am looking forward to the new season with much hope of promotion rather relegation.Having got rid of our best players slow once again in the transfer market we will proberly pick up some left overs some time in August.Players being mentioned ie Smith at Watford past his best been round the houses and back aged 29 ie no pace.Maybe we will have to rely on youngsters coming through.Do not hold out much hope on Mr Mad spending much of the money coming in. Hope by the end of season I have to eat my words.I doubt it.Regards Dan S.

Gill
Please pass on my best wishes to Murts & Marcus and families. I'll really miss them, espec. Marcus. Thanks guys for everything.

Graham Forster
TimI listen to Radio Berkshire regularly but recently it is more like Radio Reading FC. I accept that Reading are the local side but there are thousands of licence payers in Berkshire who do not support Reading and could not care whether Reading are promoted. It is one thing having the sports programmes dominated by Reading but now we have Reading FC shoved down our throats in every programme

Nic
Dear Tim and Mick I think that between us we can help Reading in their promotion hopes. Basically when Dave Kitson was playing for Reading and in top form we had a ginger cockerel called Kitson. However when Dave went to Stoke we eat him (the cockerel that is) I’m sure that if we got another ginger cockerel to go with our hens Dave will go on a scoring spree. So, if there are any listeners in the Reading area that have a ginger or light brown cockerel they don’t want and want to see Reading in the Premier league next season please get in touch.NicP.S I promise not to eat this one.

Ab Chaudhry from Australia

HI, DID TIM DELLOR USED TO WORK AT ´óÏó´«Ã½ OXFORD? I SEEM TO REMEMBER HIM POPPING OVER TO DIDCOT AND INTERVIEWING ME ABOUT THE HOUSING MARKET A FEW YEARS AGO.. I HAVE HEARD HIS VOICE AS I LISTEN IN TO THE READING COMMENTARY,,,BUT NOT TILL I LOOKED ON THE WEBSITE AND SAW HIS PHOTO DID I SUSSPECT THIS WAS THE SAME CHAP!! I REMEMBER HE SAID HIS DAD WAS A CRICKET REPORTER ? IF IT IS THE SAME, CAN YOU ASK HIM TO ASK MICK GOODING WHEN HE SEES HIM NEXT IF HE STILL IS AN ESTATE AGENT ,THAT I HAVE A VACANCY HERE IF HE FANCES A CHALLENGE!!! GREAT COVERAGE BY THE WAY,,KEEP IT UP GARY CHURCH.

Joan Tuck
Pint tonight Tim I'll drive pick you up at 8

Dan, Newbury
Season Ticket holder for the last 6 years... your coverage is by far the best on offer, great commentary and superb highlight mixes, they really get us going on the way to matches. keep it up boys

Mark Watkins
Hi Tim. I wanted to say that I'm really enjoying your match coverage of Royals games this season. What I really like is that, even though we all want Reading FC to succeed, you're still not afraid to ask tough questions (in most fans minds) such as Readings apparent lack of activity in the transfer market (no change from last season it seems!. I also liked the way you highlighted the players bust up v Forest, rather than ignoring it. It really can't be long before ´óÏó´«Ã½ Berkshire lose you to 5 Lives football commentary team I would have thought. Maybe you'll get promotion, even if Reading don't!Keep up the good workMarkReading

Thanks for the passionate commentaries this season, there are times you bring tears to my eyes not because the royals have been losing but because you put it over so well.Yesterday you were magnificent thank you you are the public school Alan Green. You are right about Mick Gooding he does need an English course

Patrick Walsh!
Delighted to hear you read my email but sad to say you didn't heed it. Just one example from yesterday's commentary was your demeaning comment that Mick Gooding should book himself on a course to learn English! Conficting somewhat with your own opinion of yourself 'Important to note what doesn't make me laugh is Little Britain. Offensive rubbish'Compliments of the season,Patrick Walsh - Lower West
