Tarnish
Sub-urbanite home-wreckers: Tarnish

Tarnish

Reading's Tarnish are an alternative rock four-piece with a guitar and keyboard-driven dark sound. "Distinctive but never predictable," according to the lead singer. Find out about the band below and listen to a track.

Tarnish formed on the outskirts of Reading in 2000 as an experiment in eight-track recording and when synths and drum loops were as unfashionable as tight jeans. In a recent interview on Channel 4鈥檚 Planet Sound, lead singer Thomas North described the band as "distinctive but never predictable". The four-piece are very much involved in live music and their audience is rapidly growing.

Tarnish have been compared to artists as diverse as Gary Numan, Bloc Party, Muse and The Cure to name a few, and their combination of emotive vocals, soaring melodies and early experiments with late seventies electronic music have all played a part in developing their modern rock sound.

Their influences are varied and eclectic: Rock, Pop, Dance, grunge, Electronica, New-Wave. Their love of diversity is apparent throughout.

They are: Thomas North (guitars, vocals), Joe North (drums, backing vocals), Jude (bass, synths, guitars) Robin Wise (keyboards, synths, guitars) although you may find them swapping instruments when the mood takes them.

As well as building up a following in Reading they have also performed at such reputable venues as The Bull and Gate and The Halfmoon (London), The Bierkeller (Bristol), The Cavern (Exeter) and are also recently attracting the attention of a couple of Oxford-based record labels.

They want to produce great albums and live shows: something intricate and crafted- and hopefully subversive鈥atch this space!
