Roxy with Vernon Kay

My One Big Weekend
By Roxy Harley

Roxy had an awesome time at Radio 1's One Big Weekend in Birmingham. She met Vernon Kay from T4, had lunch with Chris Moyles and got up close to the rock stars.

Well, after all the pestering the poor staff here at 大象传媒 Birmingham I finally got tickets to the One Big Weekend, on the Sunday, the bands day - yay! Not only were they tickets but photo passes, too聟.so I was going there as a photographer- but I'll tell you bout this little episode later!

So, I'm here at the almighty Perry Park, placed my 'pass' on my jumper and away I went!

The atmosphere was brilliant; it just felt like a big festival. The site was really friendly and nice too, there were good food stalls including the dreaded Chinese noodles stall which haunts me at every festival, Eww!

There were also merchandise stalls and then the two tents, oops and not forgetting the sumo ring, wow, I wanted a go but my mate
wouldn't let me - Spoil sport!

After having a nose about there, we headed to the big green sign saying 'Guest Area' I wasn't quite sure where I could go with these passes but went there anyhow and got in.

Act cool Roxy it's Vernon Kay...

I glanced to my right and saw Vernon Kay, holy smokes! I thought act cool Rox,- look around a bit first, but no, I couldn't hold out any longer and went over. He was really cool, and drank out of my 7UP can聟.woooo!

I did the whole, 'Hi, I'm working, can I have a pic thing' but inside I was going聟. 'Oh My God! Its Vernon Kay and he's really tall.'
So after all this excitement I went back to mix in the 'normal' area.

The park started to fill up now and the atmosphere was even more buzzing! I wondered into the second stage tent and one of the best bands I have ever heard live was playing - The Departure, they were mega. I shall definitely be enquiring about them, they looked good as a band and sounded ace!

I went for a nose about and found these some girlies that spelt out RADIO 1 - they looked brilliant! I got them to pose for me, and then another sneaky photographer came behind and took a picture! The girls were all local from Halesowen and a foreigner from Essex! I Then heard screaming from the main tent so went back to see what that was all about.

Okay, as I had this photographers pass, I was allowed right underneath the stage at the front, no one else was allowed here, even if you had a photo pass without a camera you wasn't even allowed to stand there.

So picture this - a little blonde girl with a little digital camera in the mitts of about 10 other photographers using professional cameras with metre long lenses! My friend found it highly amusing.

I didn't care though, I was there right in the photographers scrum and might I add, I got some whopping pictures. I should go professional!

After all the excitement of Razorlight and me over doing the poor camera - the battery went, yes, oh yes. I was gutted! Did I take a spare? No, of course not it's me! I couldn't take anymore pictures of the bands and I wanted loads of the crowds, but no.

So after lots and lots of contemplating, I went on the search for a battery. No good. Oh well, i'm supposed to be a reporter I thought聟.so off I went to report - well, after dinner.
I had dinner sitting on the table next to Chris Moyles may I add!

My personal highlights were Natasha Bedingfield, Razorlight, The Departures and Kasabian.
I personally thought Natasha Bedingfield was amazing, brilliant live and full of energy. The cover she sung of Maroon 5's song with Estelle was very impressive and got the crowd going and she looked stunning!

Razorlight was the highlight for me, absolutely fantastic, the musical talent is amazing and boy, Johnny can sing. I was overwhelmed by how good they were. In my eyes, they should of head lined.

GLC were amazing ...

The guitarist Tommy was very popular with the ladies and all you could hear was聟 'Tommy, Tommy, I LOVE YOU!'

I think I may have put the other guitarist off though, because I was the miniature photographer in the scrum singing my socks off and not taking pictures, and he kept looking bewilderingly at me.

Kasabian as always were very good, they always perform well.
I missed 'The Music' which I was gutted about!
And finally my hero's GLC, they where amazing, I went to watch them at the side of the stage and I was the only excited one doing all the hand movements, bet all the other professionals thought 'amateur', but you cant help but bop to the mighty welsh gangsters!

Throughout the day and after it was all over - I went on the rampage to see your views and comments:

Laura Allan from Lichfield:
"I loved Razorlight, I got right to the front for them and Mouldie Looking Stain were hilarious - that was my highlight seeing Chris Moyles in a dog costume, Legend!"

Ben Harper from Perry Barr:
"The Lost Prophets totally rocked, what a great end to a great day, they even got the crowd all moshing, was wicked!"

Lee Stratton all the way from Leeds:
"Estelle was awful, I nearly went to the toilets to gets some tissue to insert into my ears."
(She wasn't that bad!)

Gemma Hixton from Aston:
"Natasha Bedingfield was really good, I enjoyed that lots. And Damien Rice was amazing, his voice is just brilliant!"

So, that was my last day as Roxy Harley reporting for the 大象传媒, what a brilliant last assignment. Twas one of my best days ever, ever! I would just like to say even though I had these passes, you cannot beat being in the crowd.

I was in there 'moshing' to the Lost Prophets, even though they did try to cover a Strokes song, I enjoyed every second!!

I've had a brilliant time doing this for the 大象传媒 and would like to thank them, they're most kind! A big fat thank you to all the online team too and especially Sarah Loat - Thanks Chicken - I sound like I've just won an Oscar, again!
I've had a truly fandabby-dosy time and it shall be sown into my memories for ever.
