Children in NeedYou are in: Birmingham > Children in Need > Children in Need '07 Children in Need '07Thousands of people turned out for the Pudsey Party in Centenary Square on Friday night. See pictures from this and from fundraising events around Birmingham. The Children in Need Party in Centenary Square on Friday night was the culmination of a day (or even several days) of frantic fundraising by people across Birmingham. There was entertainment from 6pm until 10pm, with live music, ´óÏó´«Ã½ DJs, TV presenters and fun activities, including giant inflatables and a funfair, as well as Pudsey Bear himself being around to meet the crowds. Connie Talbot and The Academy of Gospel Get the party startedThe evening kicked off with The Old School Dance performing live on stage. This was followed by and an amazing rendition of 'Any Dream will Do', performed by The Academy of Dance. They were joined by little Connie Talbot, the six (soon to be seven) year old star of Britain’s Got Talent. A real highlight of the evening was The Thomas Vale Pantomime Horse Grand National. When grown men and women pretended to be race horses – they even got dressed up as horses and then charged along a gruelling 12 jump course, including water jumps, hay bails and foam fences. It was probably more fun for those watching than those taking part! But all of the horses really got into the spirit of it, and helped raise a lot of money for Children in Need. Mollie Green, winner of the fillies race Fillies and colts everywhere!´óÏó´«Ã½ WM's Phil Upton and Richard Wilford introduced all of those taking part and provided commentary for the race. Mark James was the winner of the Colt's race.Ìý This was his first appearance in the event - so a very well done to him. ´óÏó´«Ã½ WM's Mollie Green won the fillies race. She'd obviously been training hard after her early morning radio show. Midland Today's Ashley Blake and Sarah Falkland were also in Centenary Square. The Children in Need TV output for the West Midlands came from here, much to the delight of the crowd. Aaron Yorke, musician ´óÏó´«Ã½ WM's Les Ross was also on stage, receiving cheques from fundraisers. And Jenny Wilkes was broadcasting to the WM listeners, keeping them up to date with the activities throughout the evening. After the Grand National event, Aaron Yorke kept the crowds entertained, and the final band of the night was Miccoli. Fundraising at the Golf Show´óÏó´«Ã½ WM were at the NEC for the Golf Show from Friday 16th - Sunday 18th November raising money for Children In Need. Pudsey bear encouraged golfers to donate some money, while they set an (un-official) new record for how far a golf ball can travel in one day. The cheque is presented at the Golf Show The ball travelled 57,000 yards on Friday, 69, 779 yards on Saturday and 84, 131 yards on Sunday. Thanks to all the golfers - they donated £1167.72! How much was raisedYou've done it again! The British public have beaten all previous records, raising a staggering £19,089,771 for ´óÏó´«Ã½ Children in Need, topping last year's total of £18.3 million. And there is still more to come as the money continues to pour in from the thousands of fundraising events already held, or scheduled to happen. The West Midlands has helped to raise more than one and a half million pounds of that total, so well done to all the fundraisers. last updated: 20/11/07 You are in: Birmingham > Children in Need > Children in Need '07 |
