Using your voice to protect the planet can take many forms, but 15-year-old Edward has taken this one step further and launched a platform where young people from local schools across the UK can come together and have their voices heard on environmental issues. Matilda (14) - Gloucestershire, England
Matilda uses the power of social media to share her joint love for protecting the planet and traveling. Between her Instagram and YouTube accounts, she shares inspiring and actionable ideas that people can use a to have a positive impact on the planet. These include encouraging others to get out into nature to reducing their waste.
She also takes action herself in her day-to-day life to reduce the impact that she has on the planet, by participating in the Big Plastic Count and implementing eco-friendly kitchen swaps in her family home. She has even taught her grandmother about the importance of recycling and set up a recycling station. Our judges were very touched by Matilda鈥檚 efforts and can鈥檛 wait to see what she does next.
Lucy (16) - Edinburgh, Scotland
Lucy is passionate about improving sustainability and environmental education in schools across the country. She is part of her schools Environmental Action Research Team, and has spoken at international webinars about how her school is reducing waste and raising awareness for issues, such as climate change and palm oil.
She works hard to embed sustainability education into her school鈥檚 curriculum and is even looking to deliver a training session about the topic to school staff. She inspires her peers and staff alike and our judges were amazed by her talents!
