What to expect in Year 3

Moving up to a new year group can be both exciting and scary for you and your child.

Each school will do things a little bit differently but here are some core areas of maths and English that your child will cover in year 3.

In year 3, your child will become accustomed to working with three-digit numbers.

  • They will learn the place value of numbers up to 1000.
  • Your child will order, compare and partition numbers to 1000.
  • They will also start to solve word problems using these skills.

Calculations

This year, your child will be learning lots of methods to make calculations and solve problems.

  • They will learn to add and subtract with two-digit and three digit numbers.
  • They will learn the multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4 and 8 times tables.
  • They will continue solve problems using these skills.
