(UPBEAT MUSIC PLAYS)
Sloane: My name is Sloane, and this is my sister Emmi and my brother Tappi.
Emihle: We love learning about energy and transports. So we have invited science teacher Lisa to teach us all about it.
Lisa: Hi everyone.
Together: Hi.
Lisa: Oh, I love your roadmap. Thank you so much for inviting me to visit you. So when do you think people need to use transport?
Sloane: Maybe when they need to go somewhere really far away. So they need to go in a car or a bus or a taxi?
Lisa: Yeah.
Emihle: Traveling on like overseas to another country.
Thapelo: To go shopping.
Lisa: Exactly. So there are lots of different types of transports like cars, buses, cycling, and even walking. Some are better for the environment than others. Would you like to know more?
Together: Yes.
Lisa: In that case, I have a challenge for you.
(PAPER RUSTLING)(upbeat music playing)
Thapelo: Your mission is to collect a book from the library by traveling on a car.
Emihle: Here's the library. Get set, go.
Thapelo: That way.
(CAR SOUNDS)
(CAR HONKS)
Thapelo: This way.
Emhile: Well done. Here you go.
Thapelo: It's my book.
Lisa: So what type of fuel powers cars?
Together: Petrol.
Lisa: Yes, that's right. But petrol is a fossil fuel, when we burn it, it releases carbon dioxide, which increases global warming. Do you think that's good for the environment?
Thapelo: No.
Emihle: This is my challenge. I have found a wallet and want to take it to the police station over here. I travelled by green bus.
(BUS HONKING)
Lisa: A green bus is powered by energy from, renewable sources like wind turbines or solar panels, they don't release greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and they produce less air pollution than cars. So is this better for the environment?
Thapelo: Yes.
Emihle: Yes.
Sloane: Yes.
Lisa: Correct, but remember, we still need to build a new bus and battery, and that often requires fossil fuels. What's your challenge, Sloane?
Sloane: I have to travel by foot or bike to the shop and get a comic book.
Lisa: How do you get your energy, Sloane?
Sloane: By eating healthy food.
Emihle: And that will give her the energy to walk or cycle.
(APPLE CRUNCHES)
(UPBEAT MUSIC PLAYS)
Thapelo: Here's your comic.
Sloane: Thank you.
Lisa: So which transport do you think is best?
Sloane: Walking and going on your bike; cause you use less fuel or gas.
Emihle: I think the walking and cycling because it uses less energy and less pollution goes into the air.
Lisa: And if it's too far to walk or cycle, what other method of transport could you use to get there?
Emihle: I think the green bus is better if it's too far to walk.
Lisa: Very good. And even if you can't see a green bus, any public transport is better than a car because lots of people can use it at once.
Emihle: We loved seeing Lisa.
Thapelo: And now when we see a vehicle.
Sloane: We will think about what type of energy it uses.
