Fuad Abdul-Aziz goes down to Southampton FC’s training ground, Staplewood, where the men’s and women’s first teams train, along with the academy.

Fuad meets five young people who work behind the scenes at the site and finds out more about how important their roles are at the football club.

When I drive through the doors at Staplewood every day, it doesn’t feel like I’m coming to a job

Alex – digital content manager

As I grew up, I realised I definitely didn’t have the skills to make it as a footballer. I enjoy being on social media and it just felt like a good fit for me

Emma – player care manager

I oversee the general day to day well-being of every player, their mental health, and ensuring that the logistics are taken care of. In my position, I do get quite a lot of interaction with the first team.

Kurt – academy football coach

From a young age, I’ve had a passion for playing football, and I want to try and impart some of the experiences and knowledge that I’ve gained throughout my journey

Thomas – strength and conditioning coach

It’s really fun working with the younger players. For the older players, the 15 and16 year olds, the moment they get offered their first professional contract and all that hard work pays off is great.
