Representing data in a bar chart

When you collect and record data, you can represent it in a diagram. To show the results you can use a bar chart, pie chart, line graph, pictogram, frequency diagram or scatter diagram. This is a lesson focusing on the bar chart.

Drawing a bar chart

In a bar chart, the height of the bar shows the frequency of the result.

As the height of bar represents frequency, the vertical axis would be labelled 'Frequency'. The labelling of the horizontal axis depends on what is being represented by the bar chart.
