Do you want to take your podcast to the next level? Check out what podcasting pro Chuckie Online has to say about getting your podcast to the top of the charts!

Step 1 (00:31) 鈥 Choose your equipment.

Investing in some kit and having an individual recording source for each guest will increase the audio quality of your podcast.

Step 2 (01:02) 鈥 Check the audio levels on each device.

Setting audio levels too low could mean that one of your guests is difficult to hear, but setting your levels too high may cause your audio to peak and become distorted. Make sure your levels are the same across all of your recording devices, aim for three quarters high.

Step 3 (01:32) 鈥 Record your podcast.

A top tip is to do a loud 鈥榮ync clap鈥 in the room at the beginning of the recording. This means you鈥檒l be able to easily sync up your audio in the edit. Having a consistent intro and outro to your podcast will help create familiarity with your listeners.

Step 4 (02:26) 鈥 Begin the edit.

Make sure to back up your audio before you input it into your software. Before you begin to edit, you may need to create a new multitrack session, project or sequence depending on your software. Remember to line up the 鈥榮ync clap鈥 you recorded at the start on each of the track layers, you should be able to spot this as the large peak in your waveform.

Step 5 (03:55) 鈥 Edit out any unwanted bits in your recording and perfect your sound levels.

It鈥檚 normal to have a few bumps in your audio, but now is your chance to fix it. Cutting out any unwanted sections can easily be done by either highlighting and pressing the backspace key or adding cuts to either side of the audio you wish to remove. The button to do this can come in different forms, often known as a razor/blade tool, or split clip/add edit function.

Step 6 (04:22) 鈥 Add some jingles/music to your podcast and export.

Music with no lyrics or singer is often best to use in podcasts, as it won鈥檛 interfere with the audio you鈥檝e recorded. A jingle is a short piece of music you can use regularly across your podcast series, this will help to create familiarity with your listeners and make your podcast stand out.
