Wrth wneud ymchwiliad, bydd angen i ti gasglu a chofnodi data y gelli di dynnu casgliadau ohonyn nhw. Mae gwahanol ffyrdd o gasglu, cofnodi, trefnu a dehongli’r data. Mae siartiau cyfrif yn un ffordd.

When researching, you will need to collect and record data that you can draw results from. There are different ways of collecting, recording, organising and interpreting data. Using tally charts is one way of doing this.

Mae siartiau cyfrif yn ffordd o gyfrif sy’n defnyddio grwpiau o bump.

A tally chart is a way of counting using groups of five.

You can record your results in a tally chart like this:

Fel rwyt ti’n gallu ei weld, mae defnyddio grwpiau o bump yn ei gwneud hi’n haws gweld y cyfanswm.

As you can see, using groups of five makes it easier to see the total.

Siartiau cyfrif ac amlder

Mae defnyddio’r system marciau rhifo i gofnodi dy ganlyniadau’n gyflymach nag ysgrifennu geiriau neu ffigurau drwy’r amser.

Os wyt ti’n cofnodi dy ganfyddiadau mewn siart cyfrif, mae’r data wedi eu casglu’n grwpiau’n barod, ac ni fydd angen i ti eu grwpio nes ymlaen.

Tally charts and frequency

Using a number marking system to record your results is quicker than writing words or figures all the time.

If you record your findings in a tally chart, the data is written in groups already and therefore there is no need for you to group the data later on.

One example of an investigation is to note the most popular colour of car that passes your house. It is easier to make number marks under five headings than it is to write the words red, blue, silver, other, black etc each time.

If you use a tally chart, you can note the colour of the cars as they pass and identify the frequency total of each colour at the end of an hour's period.
