What is a blog?
A blog is a personal online diary.
The purpose of a blog is that the person writing the blog discusses a topic they are interested in.
So, a blog can discuss any subject, but here are some examples of popular topics:
- an event
- a trip
- an opinion on a particular subject
- a review of a film, poem, piece of music or book
Language and style of a blog
Most bloggers use an informal style when writing. This is the kind of language you would use when speaking, or in a letter to a friend or an email, eg:
- dw i/rwy'n (滨鈥檓)
- chdi (you - dialect)
- bant (away - dialect)
Usually, you need to write in the first person, eg:
- fi (me)
- ni (us)
Keep the information simple and use short sentences.
Use a title that draws attention and summarises the contents of the blog.
Use colourful images to present information.
Try to make your blog look appealing and easy to read.
Here鈥檚 an example of a holiday blog. It includes the language and style you'd expect in a blog, but also uses striking images and colours to appeal to readers.
SUPER SUMMER
Sunday
Had enough? Come to Ceredigion!
The sun setting over Cardigan Bay. Wow 鈥 is there anywhere else quite like this?
Yes, the Caribbean Sea is warm and the resorts in Spain are bustling with life, but if you 鈥 like me 鈥 have had enough of queuing in airports, being squeezed into a cramped seat on a packed plane, and paying ridiculous prices for food and drink, then home is the place for you鈥 no, not your bed, but the golden beaches of Cardigan Bay, watching dolphins playing in the water or canoeing as the sun sets.
Yes, it rains sometimes 鈥 as it did for us today 鈥 but that鈥檚 not all bad, especially when the 鈥楥od a Sglods鈥 chip shop is right on your doorstep. Mmmmm!
TRAVEL. HAVE FUN. BLOG. LEARN.
