Belief in miracles
Would it be true to say that miracles require faith in God and Jesus?
Agree:
- Faith is always necessary for healing in the gospelThe teachings of Jesus and the apostles. - we can see this every time Jesus healed someone. It was their faith in Jesus that made people well 鈥 eg a woman with severe bleeding showed faith and her faith saved her.
- Prayer strengthens a person鈥檚 belief, allowing miracles to happen.
- Miracles take place today when we have faith - eg there have been 69 certified cures in Lourdes (a small town in France where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared).
Disagree:
- Miracles strengthen faith. Therefore the miracle has to happen first and then a person will trust and have faith (although some may find it hard to accept that miracles happen and consider it to be luck or a coincidence).
- Having great faith does not mean miracles always happen.
Miracles still happen today
Agree:
- People have been written off by doctors who say that they only have a certain length of time to live. Yet some of these people have made a full recovery.
- There have been 69 cases in Lourdes where science and medicine cannot explain why the person has made a full recovery. These people have been healed because of their faith in the miraculous water of Lourdes.
Disagree:
- Only doctors can cure us. It鈥檚 a waste of money going to somewhere like Lourdes expecting a miracle cure, because they just don鈥檛 happen.
- People today do not place any importance on religion anymore so they don鈥檛 have faith or pray, therefore miracles can鈥檛 happen.
