Personal effectiveness is about understanding yourself. A skills audit helps identify strengths and areas for improvement. Team working and presentation skills are particularly desirable by employers.

Running effective meetings

Meetings can be a really effective way to discuss something face to face. This could include:

  • discussing ideas
  • discussing possible opportunities
  • discussing a problem and how to overcome it
  • discussing how to move something forward
  • reaching decisions

Although plenty of communication takes place using phones, emails, texts, social media outlets and the post, face-to-face meetings offer some important strengths.

In a meeting, it's possible not only to hear what's being said, but also to see the speaker鈥檚 body language and facial expressions, as well as the reactions to what is being said by others.

Meetings can also be conducted remotely through the use of video conferencing facilities. This technology allows people to attend meetings without having to be in the same location through the use of a live video link. This means it is still possible to see others鈥 expressions and body language.
