Further criticism of China's human rights record
Tibet
Tibet was occupied by China in 1950. Since then there has been an on-going struggle between the Chinese authorities and those who wish to see the return of an independent Tibet.
In recent years there has been widespread protest within Tibet against the destruction of Tibetan culture and the treatment of the Tibetan people.
Many Tibetans have been arrested and numerous incidents of torture and murder have been recorded by Amnesty International.
In 2016 local authorities, claiming concerns over overcrowding, started to demolish buildings at Tibet鈥檚 largest Buddhist institute, Larung Gar. 鈥淭hey evicted resident monks, reducing their number by half to 5,000.(Source: 大象传媒 News)
