Reading Ordnance Survey maps
The Ordnance Survey (OS) is the mapping agency for Great Britain. It creates up-to-date paper and digital maps for individuals and businesses to use.

In Higher Geography, you need to be able to interpret and analyse an Ordnance Survey (OS) map. This includes:
- using grid references
- identifying and locating physical and human features and patterns
- measuring distance and using scale
- interpreting geographical reliefGeographical relief refers to the shape of the land. Terms such as mountainous or gentle sloping are commonly used to describe the relief. and contour patternOrange/brown lines on an OS map that show different shapes in the landscape.
