This type of question assesses your analysis of an interpretation, such as a photograph or painting. It also aims to assess you contextual knowledge of the topic.

Example:

Painting depicting the harrying of the north

Interpretation A: This is an interpretation of the Harrying of the North, which was carried out by William鈥檚 Norman army between 1068 and 1070. The picture was drawn in 1978 for an educational paper for children, called 鈥楲ook and Learn鈥.

How convincing is Interpretation A about the Harrying of the North? Explain your answer using Interpretation A and your contextual knowledge.

Tips:

You need to discuss more than one of the key features of the interpretation; and you should evaluate the interpretation as having some convincing elements, but pointing out aspects that are not so convincing.

Make sure that you use plenty of your own knowledge in this question. You should consider the accuracy of the content within the interpretation and the balance of the views that are expressed.
