An adjective is a word that describes a noun. In Spanish, adjectives have different endings depending on whether the word they are describing is masculine, feminine, singular or plural.

Part of SpanishGrammar

Comparatives

are used to compare two things and say one thing is bigger, smaller, better, etc than the other. For example:

  • Barcelona es 尘谩蝉 grande que Marbella (Barcelona is bigger than Marbella)
  • Jorge es menos hablador que Xavi (Jorge is less talkative than Xavi)

This is how to form comparatives:

Word chain to construct Spanish "more than" mas + adjective + que
Word chain to construct Spanish "less than" menos + adjective + que

Irregular comparatives

The adjectives good, bad, old and young have their own special comparative form in Spanish. In these cases, it is not necessary to include 尘谩蝉 or menos:

mejor (que) - better (than)

peor (que) - worse (than)

mayor (que) - older (than)

menor (que) - younger (than)

eg mi coche es mejor que tu bicicleta (my car is better than your bike), mis amigos son mayores que yo (my friends are older than me).

Comparing similar things

Comparatives can also describe how similar two things are, eg la pel铆cula es tan interesante como el libro (the film is as interesting as the book) by using this structure:

Word chain to construct Spanish "as ... as"
