Digital cameras
Digital photography can instantly generate imagery to use as part of an art project. It can be useful to use to record ideas and to gather images for drawing and manipulating.
Cameras can generally be grouped into four categories: DSLR, compact, bridge and camera phone.
Digital SLR or DSLR camera
With a DSLR (digital single lens reflex) camera , the photographer can see an image in the viewfinder. Images are stored on a memory card.
DSLR cameras have interchangeable lenses for different types of photography.
Point-and-shoot (compact) camera
A point-and-shoot, or compact, camera is small, easy to use and inexpensive. It has an inbuilt lens rather than a viewfinder. It is pocket sized and can produce higher quality images than phone cameras.
Bridge camera
A bridge camera is in between a compact camera and DSLR. It doesn鈥檛 need interchangeable lenses but has some manual functions.
Camera phone
The camera (or multiple cameras) in a mobile phone can capture high-quality images, creating a wide range of effects. App software on mobile phones allows the photographer to edit without a separate computer.
