Properties of 3D objects3D solid objects

3D objects have three dimensions - length, width and depth. Prisms are 3D objects with a constant cross section. Pyramids are 3D objects with a flat base and which taper to a vertex. Many three-dimensional objects can be constructed from 2D nets.

3D solid objects

Here are some common solid objects.

Prisms

A prism is a 3D object which has a constant cross section - both ends of the solid are the same shape and size and anywhere you cut parallel to these ends will give you the same idenitical shape.

For example, in the prism below, the cross section is a hexagon.

This is called a hexagonal prism.

Pyramids

A pyramid is a 3D object that has sloping that meet at a .

Cross sections of a pyramid are similar - always the same shape but different sizes.
