Santana: Love of My Life - AQALove of My Life

Love of My Life was written by the award-winning Mexican-American guitarist and songwriter Carlos Santana who founded the band Santana in 1966. The album Supernatural was released in 1999 and sold over 25 million copies worldwide. Love of My Life is a collaboration between Santana and musician Dave Matthews.

Love of My Life is the second track on the album Supernatural. After his father died in 1997, Santana sought comfort in listening to classical music. This particular song was heavily influenced by the music of Brahms. Santana took the lyrical and sombre cello theme heard in the third movement of Symphony No.3 in F major and transformed it into a -based rock song. He did this by altering the instrumentation, , and .

Main features of fusion music in Love of My Life

The melody is inspired by the classical music of Brahms but the style is quite different. There are influences and as well as rock band instrumentation. The song also features elements of , the use of Latin percussion playing Afro-Cuban dance rhythms plus between vocals and guitar.
