The impact of Supernatural

The album Supernatural received nine Grammy awards and went 15 times platinum, selling over 25 million copies worldwide. It is one of the best-selling albums in the world. The album is distinctive among Santana鈥檚 work in that it features collaborations with different vocalists. Although collaboration has become more common in recent years, it was relatively unusual at the time in the late 90s.

Some people argue that Supernatural lacks a sense of unity as an album because the musical styles are so diverse. They point to the range of singers and vocal styles as examples of its lack of cohesion. Whereas some people say that musical diversity within an album is a strength because of the inherent variety and contrast.

Although artists might want to create links between individual tracks yet the rise of streaming services and downloads could mean that progression from track to track is no longer important.
