Saints’ days are days during the year where a certain saint is remembered by Catholics. They allow people to focus on a certain aspect of that saint’s life, character or ministry.
Why are saints’ days important to Catholics?
They help Catholics to remember those who have gone before and spread the Christian faith throughout the centuries and across the world.
They give Catholics an opportunity to give thanks for those who helped spread Christianity.
They remind Catholics of the cost of following God as many of the saints were willing to die for Christianity.
They challenge Catholics to remain loyal to God when it is difficult, just as the saints did.
Saints days serve to inspire Catholics to live as the saints did – eg to serve God and care for the sick.
Some Catholics will pray in the names of the saints, believing they are close to God and that they can appeal for them.
