Hindu teaching says that all life is part of a cycle of birth, life, death and rebirth called . Hindus receive guidance on how to live good lives from religious teachers, writings, the community and the traditions of Hindu life.

Humans can be reincarnated to a new, better life if they free themselves from (illusion): One who has taken his birth is sure to die, and after death one is sure to take birth again. Therefore, in the unavoidable discharge of your duty, you should not lament (Bhagavad Gita 2.27). This teaches Hindus that birth leads to death, and then death leads to birth. Refusing to accept this is an illusion (maya).

Some Hindus think it is possible to move towards liberation, or moksha, during life. This freedom, achieved in the course of human life, is called jivan mukti, which means 鈥榮elf-realisation鈥.
