Members of Parliament (MPs) are elected every five years at a General Election.

For the purposes of the General Election, the country is divided into 650 constituencies or areas. Each constituency elects one MP to Parliament.

What happened at the last General Election?

The last General Election in the UK was held on Thursday 4th July 2024.

At the 2024 General Election, Scotland returned 57 MPs:

  • 37 Labour
  • 9 SNP
  • 6 Liberal Democrats
  • 5 Conservative
