This type of question is focussing on causation 鈥 the reasons why something happened. It is also assessing your knowledge of the period. You will be given stimulus points to prompt you in the right direction.

Example:

Explain why the Throckmorton Plot (1583) was a threat to Queen Elizabeth.

You may use the following in your answer:

  • Mary, Queen of Scots
  • Foreign Threat

You must also use own knowledge.

  • Explain each reason carefully.
