Case study - Eva Clarke

Eva Clarke is a survivor who came to live in Cardiff, south Wales until she was 18 years of age.

Eva鈥檚 parents had been sent to a in Auschwitz, where her father was shot dead. Her mother, Anka Bergman, who was pregnant with Eva at the time, was saved and sent on a 17-day train journey to another concentration camp with no food and very little water.

Soon after the train journey, Anka gave birth to Eva at the concentration camp at Mauthausen. Anka weighed a mere 32 kg by this time, and Eva weighed just 1.5 kg at birth.

Holocaust Memorial Day is a national day which is observed every year on 27 January. It is a time for people to remember those who suffered and lost their lives during the Holocaust.
