The Procurator Fiscal (PF)

Description

When the police charge someone for a crime, they send a report to the Procurator Fiscal (PF). The PF investigates the crime, considers the report and decides on what action should then be taken. The PF can decide to take no proceedings, to issue a warning or a fiscal fine, to refer to the children鈥檚 panel, to divert proceedings to psychiatric or social work assessment, or to proceed to a court prosecution.

Classroom Ideas

Use this clip as to illustrate the duties of the Procurator Fiscal. Students could be encouraged to take notes of the responsibilities of a Procurator Fiscal when deciding cases and punishments for criminals, to be discussed as a class following the clip.
