Lucy: Hi! Let's use light to make shadow puppet monsters.
We can make a shadow by blocking out light from the sun or a torch.
And we can use puppets to turn shadows into little monsters. "Grrrrr!"
First, get a torch, scissors, tape, a pencil and some card. Then, find a couple of ice lolly sticks, some chopsticks, or even a wooden spoon. Any of these will work.
Okay. First, draw some monsters. I'm drawing one round blob monster with horns. And one monster with a great big mouth.
Next, get your scissors and cut along the lines. Always ask an adult for help when using scissors. Don't worry if they're not quite perfect. They will still make fun shadows.
Next, tape a stick to each one. Like this. Great! Our monsters are ready.
Now let's turn them into shadow puppets. Turn on your torch, facing a sheet or the wall and turn out any other lights. Now, hold your puppet in front of the light. "Roar!"
And when you move your puppet, the shadows move too. "Bloop, bloop, bloop."
It also works to use your hands. "Snap snap, snap snap, snap snap!"
Shadow puppets are so much fun. I bet you could even put on a show for your friends and family. I wonder what other shapes we can make. I can't wait to find out.
